Mare Lease Opportunities
We have made our breeding plans for the 2009 breeding season and based upon those decisions, we have chosen not to breed 3 of our purebred mares for our own or sales foals in 2009, due to the age of some of our broodmares, and not-for-sale status of the foals we plan to retain for our herd. Therefore, in the interest of continued preservation and genetic increase, we have chosen to offer a mare lease opportunity for the 2009 season to interested parties, so that our quality mares do not stand open unnecessarily.
The lease will operate in the following way. A flat fee is paid to us for the use of one of our purebred broodmares to produce a purebred Akhal-Teke foal. The leasor is free to choose the purebred stallion of their choice to sire the foal, although the choice must be approved by us ( no stallions with known genetic defects or other anomolies ). All breeding fees, including stud fee and veterinary costs to acheive and maintain the pregnancy, are the responsibility of the leasor. The mare will stay in our care for the entire duration of the pregnancy and lactation period and a board fee will be charged to cover the extra expenses of feed and care of a pregnant mare, ( only above and beyond what we would be paying ourselves to care for her if left open ), and those costs directly associated to the foal itself. The leasor has the option to carry foal insurance on the unborn foal, or to accept responsibility for the possible financial ramifications relating to the birth and pre-weaning time period. The foal will belong solely to the leasor at birth, assuming all outstanding fees have been paid, and will be ready to travel to your destination of choice after weaning, although we are open to discussing further boarding arrangements if necessary.
This is an incredible opportunity to acquire your own purebred Akhal-Teke at a very reasonable price, with the additional chance to custom-breed it to your own desires. You will be closely involved in the entire process, yet not have to do the hands-on care of mare and foal, foaling out, etc., nor be required to provide suitable living arrangements and care necessary for a mare and foal.
The lease program is open immediately, and the choice of our three available mares can be reserved with a deposit and signed contract. The mares offered for breeding are Guana-Kosteka, Dogoni, and Garakali; details and photos can be found on our Akhal-Teke Mares page. All three are high-quality purebreds and young, healthy mares in the prime of their breeding lives. Stallion selection must be made prior to April 1, 2009, and all arrangements to the stallion owner must be finalized before the mare(s) will be bred. Unfortunately, due to the nature of equine breeding and the very reasonable cost of this arrangement, we cannot provide a sex preference on the foal- what is born is what you get, no filly-colt guarantee.
Please contact us for more in-depth details, sample contract and more information on this outstanding opportunity.
