Akhal-Teke Stallions

Gindarkh 13
1984 Golden Dun Stallion (Gaukhar 4 x Takappara 2), Gelishikili line,
born Lugovsky Stud Farm, Kazakhstan.

Holding the highest grading level of Elite, given by the International Association of Horse Breeding in Ryazan, Russia, Gindarkh is an excellent example of type combined with classic bloodlines. He received grading points of 8.0 for pedigree, 7.9 for type, and 8.0 for conformation. His sire, Gaukhar 4, was a very successful racehorse and sire of the Gelishikili line, while his dam, Takappara 2, of the Arab line, was the best daughter of the famous stallion Absent. Both lines are noted for their sport ability, and this line cross is called "the Golden Cross".

Gindarkh was born at the renowned Lugovsky Stud Farm, then was sold as a two-year old and travelled the world for much of his life, first with the Mongolian State Circus, then with the Ringling Brothers Circus. The stamina, intelligence and tolerance necessary for this difficult and unnatural lifestyle are evident in his good-natured disposition and friendly attitude. Unfortunately, by the time he came to us, the stress and pounding of many hard years had taken their toll, and so he was retired to stud immediately, forgoing the reschooling and competitive career we wish he could have had. His beautiful elegant movement, with natural collection, would make his grandsire Absent proud. He is balanced, light and fast, and his presence is breathtaking. Gindarkh is a prime example of the medium style of Akhal-Teke type, resembling the sporthorse mold. He has produced many excellent offspring, despite his late start in the breeding shed, and he continues to surprise and thrill us with his soundness, good health, and fertility in his twilight years.

His foals show his wonderful attitude and lovely movement with great toplines and plenty of bone, he especially passes on his front end, head and neck carriage. Their trainability and intelligence make them a pleasure to work with. They look forward to work and learn incredibly fast with natural athletic ability and balance. In addition, all of his foals so far exhibit some to all of his metallic coat color and he throws a great deal of chrome, face and legs. He carries the sabino gene and is heterozygous bay-based with a dilution gene, enabling him to throw a great deal of color variance.

Gindarkh had 1 purebred foal in 2008, the gorgeous Galindar, who will be headed for Europe. He still has good semen quality at 24 years of age, and covered 3 of our purebred mares in 2008, but he no longer stands at stud to outside mares as his semen cannot withstand shipment at his age. We may have some foals by him available in 2009, please check back for more details. We are extremely proud that Gindarkh sired the 2008 ATSA Champion purebred Akhal-Teke, our young prospect Samovar, as well as the champion partbred mare, Stoli Gold. We look forward to seeing many more of his offspring wearing ribbons as well.

Mergen
1990 metallic buckskin sabino stallion, Meidanli x Grenada, Sere line,
born Lugovsky Stud Farm, Kazakhstan, graded elite by MAAK 1999.

Born at the now-extinct Russian stud farm Lugovsky, home of many breed and sport champions, Mergen's journey to the US took him first through France, at the stud farm Acot-Teke, where he produced many beautiful offspring over several years. He arrived in the US in May of 2004 and has had only a few foals so far, but we plan on using him quite a bit more in the future based on what we have seen him produce to date. Mergen is the first stallion we have added to our breeding program in 13 years, his combination of pedigree, conformation, type, and performance were what we have been searching for, we are confident he will add immeasurably to our herd. His sire Meidanli was one of the best sons of the sensational Sere, and one of the least-represented of that line. His dam was a granddaughter of Absent through her sire Ararat, providing us with yet another connection to that dressage superstar.

A truly striking stallion, Mergen has the unmistakable true Akhal-Teke conformation; long thin neck, high withers, long legs and extremely dry head, set atop a lean, long body with a superb slanting croup. The color of his coat is incredibly metallic as well. His movement is ideal- gliding, elastic and free, with ground-covering strides and endless scope. His temperament is intelligent, alert, and aware, and his work ethic is outstanding.

Mergen was also an accomplished athlete, performing equally well in dressage, showjumping, and endurance, and we expect him to produce fine athletes to carry that on torch. His first foals are huge, tall and free-moving. We no longer ship semen from him due to his age, but he can live-cover seasoned mares here at the farm or do A.I with mares who are locally boarded. He will be bred to several of our mares in 2009.

Samovar
2004 metallic perlino stallion, Gindarkh 13 x Senova, Gelishikli line.

Sam is our pride and joy, the result of many years of attempting to get a foal from his incredible dam, and he is growing up to be everything that we anticipated him to be. If we could only get one, and Sam is that only one ever, we feel we have accomplished what we set out to do, and it was well worth the effort and money spent. We are more excited about this young stallion with every passing day.

His dam was the first Akhal-Teke ever born in the US, and we believe the perfect combination of type and performance. She was the #2-ranked mare in this country, with scores of 8.0 type/8.0 conformation, and was also the highest-performing mare ever here, competing successfully through Intermediate/CCI** Level eventing. Her full brother Sengar was long-listed for the 1996 Olympic Games in eventing. Sam's sire is our beloved and spectacular stallion Gindarkh 13, and Sam is the only one of his sons that we have retained to date. He is linebred on the Olympic Gold Medallist Absent, through both sire and dam, at a level of 3 x 4, making him quite possibly the closest Akhal-Teke descendent alive to that legendary performer.

Sam has outstanding conformation; clean, straight legs, a medium build with a great hindquarter, and a long, lovely neck, with a refined, beautiful head. He has simply breathtaking movement, with definite FEI-dressage potential, natural passage and an extended trot to take your breath away. He has been carefully started under saddle and will be evaluated by our dressage trainer Bent Jensen when appropriate. He is already exhibiting his parents' great work ethics and trainability. We plan for him to have a sport career before entering the breeding shed, but will freeze semen this fall for insurance.

Rovshen Ozal
2008 metallic chestnut colt, Rustam x Abaza, Toporbai line

Rovshen means brilliance in Turkmen, a very fitting name for this sensational colt. Bred for us in Europe by Ozalynda Akhal-Tekes, he is the son of the highly under-utilized Rustam, a son of the renowned Rokot out of the impeccable Stavropol mare Rena, daughter of Adat. Rovshen’s dam is the elite-graded Dagestan import Abaza, a tall and elegant main-type mare.

Rovshen Ozal will be the first Toporbai-line stallion in N. America when he is imported, we plan for him to be a sport competitor as well. Indications from his first days are that he will be inclined towards eventing or showjumping with his speed, agility, and boldness. We are extremely excited to add his genes to our herd, and will be anxiously awaiting his arrival here in the US.
