Akhal-Teke Stallions

Gindarkh 13

1984 Golden Dun Stallion (Gaukhar 4 x Takappara 2), Gelishikili line, born Lugovsky Stud Farm, Kazakhstan.

Holding the highest grading level of Elite, given by the International Association of Horse Breeding in Ryazan, Russia, Gindarkh is an excellent example of type combined with classic bloodlines. He received grading points of 8.0 for pedigree, 7.9 for type, and 8.0 for conformation. His sire, Gaukhar 4, was a very successful racehorse and sire of the Gelishikili line, while his dam, Takappara 2, of the Arab line, was the best daughter of the famous stallion Absent. Both lines are noted for their sport ability, and this line cross is called "the Golden Cross".

Gindarkh was born at the renowned Lugovsky Stud Farm, then was sold as a two-year old and travelled the world for much of his life, first with the Mongolian State Circus, then with the Ringling Brothers Circus. The stamina, intelligence and tolerance necessary for this difficult and unnatural lifestyle are evident in his good-natured disposition and friendly attitude. Unfortunately, by the time he came to us, the stress and pounding of many hard years had taken their toll, and so he was retired to stud immediately, forgoing the reschooling and competitive career we wish he could have had. His beautiful elegant movement, with natural collection, would make his grandsire Absent proud. He is balanced, light and fast, and his presence is breathtaking. Gindarkh is a prime example of the medium style of Akhal-Teke type, resembling the sporthorse mold.  He has produced many excellent offspring, despite his late start in the breeding shed, and he continues to surprise and thrill us with his soundness, good health, and fertility in his twilight years.

His foals show his wonderful attitude and lovely movement with great toplines and plenty of bone, he especially passes on his front end, head and neck carriage. Their trainability and intelligence make them a pleasure to work with. They look forward to work and learn incredibly fast with natural athletic ability and balance.  In addition, all of his foals so far exhibit some to all of his metallic coat color and he throws a great deal of chrome, face and legs. He carries the sabino gene and is heterozygous bay-based with a dilution gene, enabling him to throw a great deal of color variance.

Gindarkh had 2 foals in 2007, both crosses out of our Caspian mares.  These foals look to be outstanding large sportpony prospects.  He has 2 purebred foals expected in 2008.  He is still at 100% conception on first cover at 22 years of age, and will be bred to some of our purebred mares in 2008 as well.  He stands at stud to outside mares for a stud fee of $1500, A.I. only.  He is an perfect choice to improve type, movement, and sport ability.  Please contact us for more information or a stallion service agreement.

Gindarkh's Progeny

Mergen

1990 Dark Golden Buckskin Stallion (Meidanli x Grenada), Sere (Sapar Khan) line, born Lugovsky Stud Farm, Kazakhstan

Mergen was also bred at Lugovsky Stud, home of many sport champions including Absent.  His pedigree is exceptional, he is sired by one of the best sons of the outstanding Sere, while his dam is a granddaughter of Absent himself.  Mergen was graded by MAAK in 1999 and received scores of 8.0 for pedigree, 7.5 for type, 8.0 for measurements, and 8.0 for conformation, for a grading level of Elite-2.  He is the only stallion of his bloodline in the US to stand at stud to outside mares.

Mergen is considered the main style of Akhal-Teke type, referred to as the racehorse mold.  He has absolutely classic Akhal-Teke conformation, with a lovely long neck, excellently defined withers, a beautiful hindquarter, and long, long legs.  He has a very dry head as well, long and narrow.  He is a strikingly metallic dark golden buckskin, with 4 white socks and a blaze.  his movement is also outstanding, low and snaky as is the ideal for the breed, his jump is light and effortless.  He competed in various disciplines during his years in Europe, including dressage, eventing, and showjumping.  He was also evaluated here in the US as an excellent endurance prospect, however, his age and breeding demand overrode his potential in that field.

Mergen spent several years in Europe after being exported from Russia.  He competed successfully in dressage, showjumping, and endurance while also siring many excellent foals at the stud farm Acot-Teke in France.  He has as excellent work ethic and enjoys a varied routine.  He is currently semi-retired due mainly to time constraints, he enjoys hacking on our hills and keeping an eye on the ladies.

Mergen had one foal in 2007, the striking sabino palomino colt Kiev.  He unfortunately has no foals due in 2008, due to our limited opportunity to use Maruk for one season.  Mergen has a busy year planned in the breeding shed in 2008, he will be bred to several of our purebred mares.  He stands at stud to outside mares in 2008 for a stud fee of $1200, A.I. only.  He is an ideal choice to improve conformation, height, and sport ability.  Please contact us for more information or a stallion service agreement.

Maruk

1996 metallic buckskin, Munir x Ataka, Ak Sakal line

We were proud to have the opportunity to lease the excellent stallion Maruk from the herd of Tito and Natasha Pontecorvo for the 2007 breeding season.  Maruk is the best son of the outstanding stallion Munir, a son of the renowned Vatanchi, and breed champion of Russia.  Maruk has superb type; he is tied for the #1-ranking amongst US stallions with scores of 8.0 type/8.5 conformation.

Maruk is one of the very few old-type massive style Akhal-Teke stallions available in the U.S.  He has lovely movement, exhibiting the classic snake-like gaits so sought after in this breed, a noted strong point of his bloodline.  He also has tremendous bone, a beautiful topline, an excellent shoulder, and a strong, powerful hind end; in addition, the exotic hooded eye, dry refined head, and lack of hair that are the hallmarks of Akhal-Teke type.  He is truly a kind and friendly stallion as well, with a laid-back temperament and an easygoing nature.

Maruk had never before been available to outside mares, and has to date only a small number of offspring.  He bred 5 of our own or leased purebred mares in 2007, and we expect these foals to make a major contribution to the Akhal-Teke population in the US.  Please keep an eye on the website for updates as these foals are born, some will be offered for sale.

Samovar

purebred metallic perlino colt, born June 12,Gindarkh 13 x Senova, Gelishikli line

Sam is our long-awaited miracle foal, born June 12, 2004.  His elite-graded dam, Senova (Senetir-Oliva-Ametist),  competed successfully through Intermediate 3-Day Eventing and was the #2-graded mare in the US, with grading points of 8.0 type/ 8.5 conformation.  Samovar is her only offspring ever.  He is everything we hoped for - both typey and athletic, with truly correct conformation.  He also has an outstanding temperament- sweet, gentle, and affectionate, with a very intelligent character.  Sam was selectively inbred on the Akhal-Teke dressage superstar Absent, to a degree of 3-4.  With that pedigree, and his superb movement and easy trainability, he is destined for an upper-level dressage career, and someday to succeed his sire in the breeding shed.  Sam is our mold of the ideal Akhal-Teke.  He will have a sport career with our dressage trainer, Olympian Bent Jensen, before being offered at stud to outside mares.

Mejal

2006 metallic bay sabino, Mergen x Dushka, Sere line.

Mejal is the perfect combination of his sire's outstanding conformation and charisma with his dam's gentle nature, lovely type, and excellent movement.  With both parents successful competition Tekes, we expected Mejal to have a similar career path in either dressage or showjumping. However, he suffered a career-ending injury at one day old, so we will never be able to discover how talented we feel he is under saddle.

Mejal is sweet, sensible, and charming.  Despite his very difficult start in life, he has maintained his excellent character and good nature throughout his many surgeries and recuperations.  His attitude has always remained positive and he has accepted everything we have asked of him without question.  He is quite tall for his age, with long legs and an extremely refined exterior, very much a main or racehorse-type like his sire.  We expect him to top out close to or above his sire's height of 15.3 1/2hh.  We hope to be able to use Mejal as a sire when he is mature, due to his excellent type, conformation, and character, and that we can keep him happy and comfortable despite his limitations.
