What's New
October 28, 2007
Congratulations to our working student Natasha
Boraas on her purchase of Jakyrdy (formerly Jubilation), a 2003 product
of our breeding program (Gindarkh 13 x Jamais Se Rendre, Selle Francais).
She will be aiming her mare for a dressage career and being our main
help for the next few years.
October 15, 2007.
We have been very lax in updating this page, but
mostly because we are just TOO BUSY !! We are proud to announce the
sale of our 2007 purebred colt Kiev ( Mergen x Kalmykia ) to Don and Kate
Allen of Iowa. Kiev will be aimed at an endurance career with hopes
at a breeding stint in the future as well, he will leave us and travel to
his new home in November.
We also are happy to welcome our newest arrivals, the
purebred Teke mares Fergan and Magnolia, and the purebred Teke gelding
Kuma. The mares will go into our breeding herd, and Kuma into
training as soon as he has settled in. We acquired Kuma in a
breeder's swap with Silk Road Akhal-Tekes of Raymore MO. We look
forward to seeing what discipline he prefers, and working in that
direction. His training partner will be the halfbred mare Stoli
Gold, a daughter of our own Gindarkh, who is in for training from Triple
SSS Farm of Ft. Pierce, FL. Stoli is truly a Golden Princess and we
enjoy seeing how she will bloom.
Breeding season is officially over, we are happy to
announce that we expect 7 purebred foals in 2008. Keep an eye on the
2008 Breeding Page for more specific information on those.
Lots of hard work is nearing completion here
at CAE as well. Our custom iron grill stallfronts finally arrived
for our broodmare barn, so those are being installed and with the upgrade
of our electrical system, the final touches of lights, outlets, phone
connection, and intercom to the house will finish off that barn for good.
Our new 20' x 64' tractor barn and machine shop is getting closer-to-done
by the day, with the hard work of contractor Ross Beebe and his crew. If
it would ever rain, we could also finish up our fencing list for the
year, but the ground is just too hard to dig for now. The warm
weather has been very helpful but the drought has not.
March 11, 2007. The weather cooperated perfectly for our pasture and hayfield fertilizing, with a good steady rain shortly following the spreading. We expect a bumper crop of hay this year. The fields are greening quickly as spring is making an appearance early. Hair is coming off in handfuls and the mares are getting quite round.
March 16, 2007.
We were happy to welcome Sweet Briar College freshman Natasha Boraas during
her 10-day Spring Break from school. She spent the week with us working
with the horses and we were able to take a lovely weekend together away from
the farm for the first time in almost two years with her capably holding down
the homefront. The horses, cats and dogs all adored Natasha and she was
a huge help in many of the projects that benefited from an extra pair of
hands. We were sorry to see her leave but she is just a short hour's
drive away, we will be seeing her soon again, I hope.
November 12, 2006. With the completion of the broodmare barn, our next project is the re-fencing of the Caspian paddocks with new vinyl fence for the exterior on the road, and 4-board wood for the interior partitions. We are adding a third paddock which will increase the size by 50% and allow better paddock rotation. September
24, 2006. We are pleased to announce our
acquisition of another July 15,
2006. Construction has begun on the new
Broodmare barn. The
July 11, 2006. We have finished first cutting of the hay. Mostly orchard grass with some timothy and lespedza, we have about 2500 bales in the barn. The clover looks to be coming in well for second cutting. Now, if the weather will cooperate and we can get some rain.
July 3, 2006. Our purebred A-T mare Dushka presented
us with a lovely strong colt foal this evening, the proud papa is Mergen.
This boy is either a dark buckskin or a light golden bay, we will have to wait
until he sheds out to be sure. With 4 socks, a blaze and gleamingly
metallic, he is quite a looker. We named him Mejal, Turkmen for strength or
powers. Pictures to follow. We have now finished our foaling
season, breeding season should wrap up within the next few weeks.
